Reviewing Moderne Studio
Hello guys and welcome to a new series on my blog where I’ll be sharing my experiences with photo shoot studios I’ve worked with before, and, allowing you, my readers to rate them!
So without further ado, let’s get right into it! Let’s review our first studio for the day!
MODERNE STUDIO
Name of Studio: Moderne Studio
Location: Nextgen Mall, Mombasa Road, Nairobi, Kenya.
THE EXPERIENCE…
This honestly had to be one of the worst shoots of my life, because, heh! I’ve had better! Here’s what happened…
This was a dual shoot, meaning we had booked a shoot for two; me and a friend. We had booked in for 9am. We got there at 8.30a.m. We had not done our makeup so we were given a room to do our makeup.
By the time we were finishing, it was 9.30a.m. I went first, my photos were taken and if I were to rate the quality of photos, I’d give them a 7/10 rating. I’ll explain why later. The studio also relies highly on natural light which works to their advantage.
After the shoot was complete, we were given a tablet from which to choose our best photos. What made me aggravated about the situation was that before we could even complete choosing our photos, the tablet was snatched and given to clients who’d come in after us. I honestly found that highly unprofessional, and on demanding to know why that was so, we were just dismissed and told that we ought to have hurried up as they only had one tablet they were relying on to serve all clients.
What made it even worse was that we had to wait for another whole hour before the tablet was given back to us!🤯🤯🤯
PRICING…
So, with photoshoots, most photoshoot studios have a fixed package of a minimum number of photos that you can get at a fixed price. Any extras that the client may want, are given to them in raw/unedited form. Moderne studio charges 350bob per pic, minimum 10 pictures. Any extras are charged at 100 bob each. I took 5 extras that I really liked, so that was an extra 500bob above the 3500bob fixed price.
WAIT TIME…
Photos are ready in 3 working days. This shoot was on a Tuesday morning, by Friday morning I had my photos.
PHOTOS DELIVERED…
My goodness, the photos delivered were an absolute scam. I don’t know what softwares they use to edit the photos, but mine were just something else. My hair, which is naturally black, looked brown and aged in the edited photos.
In the set of photos shared below, compare the edited to the unedited version. Take keen note of the shoe colour. My shoe in the edited set of pics looks…. soo old. Aaah!😰😰😰
In addition, my face in the edited pic looks like I have 10 kilograms of makeup on!😱😱😱
REASONS I’D RECOMMEND MODERNE STUDIO:
✔The studio has good natural lighting which makes their photos all the more beautiful/
✔They deliver photos within 3 working days, which is very convenient for impatient people like me. (I know of studios which even go upto 5 working days before delivering)
✔Their rates are very fair and friendly.
✔ The quality of unedited pictures is on point!
REASONS I’D ABSOLUTELY NOT REDCOMMEND MODERNE STUDIO:
✖Professonalism Rating: 6/10
✖Friendliness and service to customers: 5/10
✖Their edited photos for me feel like I wasted 3500 bob… what was delivered wasn’t worth that money.

This was an experience I had exactly one year ago. Whether the studio has changed in some way to improve their services or not, I may not be aware.
